Android Device Setup for Automatic Image Upload to Google Drive
Applies To: Android smartphones used with FLIR cameras or image capture for DIG platform
Purpose: To enable automatic photo backup from an Android device to Google Drive using IFTTT
1. Purpose
This procedure outlines how to configure an Android phone so that all captured images are automatically backed up to a linked Google Drive account using the IFTTT automation app. This eliminates the need for manual uploads and ensures synchronized image access for processing and compliance tasks.
2. Prerequisites
A working Android smartphone
An active Wi-Fi network
A valid Google Account (used for both Drive and Play Store)
Access to the Google Play Store
Internet connectivity
3. Step-by-Step Procedure
Step 1: Connect to Wi-Fi
Power on the Android device.
Navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
Connect the device to a stable local Wi-Fi network.
Confirm internet access by opening a browser or app.
Step 2: Sign in to a Google Account
Go to Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Google.
Sign in with your Google credentials.
Ensure that Google Drive is enabled under sync settings.
Step 3: Install the IFTTT App
Open the Google Play Store.
Search for IFTTT and install the app.
Once installed, open the IFTTT app.
Step 4: Create or Sign in to an IFTTT Account
Open the app and sign in using Google or create a new IFTTT account.
Grant necessary permissions requested by the app.
Step 5: Set Up the Photo Backup Applet
In the IFTTT app, search for:
“Back up Android Photos to Google Drive”
Select the applet, then tap Connect.
Authorize IFTTT to access:
Android Photos
Google Drive

Step 6: Configure the Applet
Set your preferences:
Folder name in Google Drive where photos will be stored
Trigger (e.g., “New photo taken” or “New screenshot”)
Confirm and activate the applet.

Step 7: Test the Setup
Take a photo using the phone’s camera.
Wait 1–2 minutes and check Google Drive.
Navigate to the specified folder to confirm the photo has uploaded.

4. Ongoing Use
All future photos taken on the device will automatically upload to Google Drive via IFTTT.
Ensure the device remains connected to Wi-Fi for uploads to succeed.
Photos are accessible in real time via your linked Drive account from any device.
5. Troubleshooting
Issue
Solution
Photos not appearing in Google Drive
Check Wi-Fi connection and ensure IFTTT applet is active and permissions are granted
Drive folder not updating
Open IFTTT and manually refresh applets; recheck configuration
Login/authentication problems
Log out and back in to both Google and IFTTT apps
6. Notes
IFTTT free plans may have limitations on the number of applets; consider upgrading if multiple devices are used.
Images are stored in the cloud and accessible through Didge if linked via automation or API.
